My Miami race weekend started on Friday with the expo for packet pick-up. Let me tell you, I have never been to a packet pick-up this elaborate. I know I’ve only been racing for a year and change, but man! The nerves were sure on high alert that day.
I not only was picking up my race stuff for the Fitbit Tropical 5K, but also for the Fitbit Miami Marathon & Half Marathon. This was a big deal. The expo was held at Mana Wynwood and like everything in Miami, it was extra AF! I absolutely loved it. I ended up buying shirts for my daughters, hubby and myself.
I was alone for packet pick-up otherwise my husband would have been all over taking pictures of everything. I love him for that. I get so caught up in whatever I’m doing that I forget to take pictures. It is what it is.
It was forecasted to be a soggy weekend. When I woke up Saturday for the race, it was raining. Nevertheless, the race was on. No emails about delays. Rain or shine, we were running.
The course was a little different than what I’m used to. I’m used to going in a loop of some sort where the beginning and end are almost in the same location. Not this time. The race started at Miami Children’s Museum and ended on South Pointe. So my husband dropped me off around 6:30 AM at the Children’s Museum and he went to find parking close to the finish.
This was another cold, rainy, windy run. However, you cannot beat the views.
Running by the cruise ships docked to our right. Ocean to the left. I mean, who can beat that? There was music on the course. I twerked a few times. It was just a party. A soggy party!
Miami is always hot, humid and just muggy… so I welcomed the rain, drop in temperatures and wind like my best friend I haven’t seen in years!
Rain or shine the race was amazing. I wish I could have stuck around for the post-race festivities but my kiddos were soaked, cranky from an early wake up and ready to go get some breakfast!
I had so much fun, that I already registered for next year’s 5K!
That’s just how I roll!
Peace, love & croquetas.
