Second half of the year is going even quicker than the first! It feels as though my kids just started summer break and here we are 18 days before school starts! I need to buy school supplies and uniforms. They need to finish projects! We all need to get back on a normal sleeping schedule. No more late nights for these kids! Soon, it will be back to the daily hustle.
My summer goals of being a Pinterest mom went to hell after a week. They slept in most of the summer but they did help around the house with chores, we worked out as a family a few times. Not all was lost. I’m calling it a win.
For August it’s all about getting back to a routine and challenging myself. So here are my 10 goals for August.
Eat More Veggies
I’ve slacked. I’m not gonna lie. I stopped eating veggies a while back and I just haven’t wanted to make them myself. I’ll eat them at most places if we go out to eat but for me to cook? That’s a mission and a half since I suck at it. August though just means the miles are getting longer and I need to be fueling correctly so let’s do the damn thing! I’m going to try and eat veggies in at least 2 out of 3 meals. Wish me luck… I hate cooking.
Drink Less Coffee
I love me a good shot of cuban coffee. I’m addicted to having a colada every morning before a workout for energy. However, in the last couple of weeks I have noticed that it’s giving me more discomfort and I’m focusing more on the pain than the actual workout. I suffer from heartburn, acid reflux and gastritis so coffee really should be eliminated all together. Especially Cuban coffee with the amount of sugar it contains. The first couple of days of headaches are going to be so much fun! Yay!
Go to Sleep by 10 PM
The kids really mess up my sleeping schedule during the summer. I don’t get to bed most days until 11 PM and by the time I actually fall asleep, it’s about 30 minutes to an hour later. It really suck because I still have to wake up at the same time. To make up for it, I’ve been taking naps after early morning workouts but I’m wasting the day! I can’t do it. I need to get to bed at a decent time and that includes getting the kids back on a normal sleeping pattern. No more going to bed at 5 AM and waking up at 4 PM. Those days are done… until next summer!
Keep up with my training
I’ve been pretty consistent with my training and just hope I keep the momentum going. Consistency is key. I’m happy how my training is going so far and making the necessary changes to ensure a good cycle. All runs no matter how crappy have taught me a lesson and I’m correcting whatever mistakes I’ve made as the cycle continues.
Do a 30 day running challenge
Speaking of running, I want to challenge my self for the month of August and run at least a mile a day. I’m already guaranteed 3 to 4 runs a week so it should be easy to include the rest of the week. Maybe do treadmill runs every other day and outdoor runs on my training days. Like everything else in my life, I’ll just wing it!
Plan a running meet up.
This is something I’ve thought about for a while and really want to connect with local runners who like me, feel awkward approaching running groups because they feel intimidated. I already have an idea for a location and I think I have a date. I just need to work on details and hopefully have this set up soon.
Complete a 30 day plank challenge
30 days – 3 x 30 second planks a day. Sounds easy enough. I know there are other challenges out there where you up the time by day or week and maybe I’ll try that eventually. For now, I just want to get the ball rolling and do planks. Maybe for these last few months of 2019, I’ll tackle a different unbearable exercise… planks, push ups, burpees… we’ll see!
Write a blog post once a week
August seems to be about developing habits and I need to be more consistent with this little blog of mine. So I’m challenging myself to write something and publish it once a week. Starting with this post. I could very well schedule posts as well for those weeks I don’t know what to write about. I know it’s not a very good blog but it’s a start and we all have to start somewhere.
Run 50 miles in August
July’s goal was 30 miles and I did just that. I am upping August to 50 miles. I believe between the challenge and training, 50 miles for August is very doable. Again, everything about August is about consistency, routine and challenging myself. I feel like I am in the right mindset for this.
Get through the first week of school
Heaven help me. My kids start a new school. My oldest is going to her last year of Elementary school and by December has to have electives picked out for 6th grade. My youngest is going to 4th grade and with her behavioral issues, I just hope this new school/teachers are better suited than the last. They are both so smart and getting back to the school routine is always hard on the entire family. We have summer reading projects to finish up and getting everyone back on a normal sleep schedule. I hope we can get it all done in 19 days! Wish me luck!
I have some pretty hefty goals this month but again, August is all about the challenge. I’m hoping by doing this it keeps my mind preoccupied from the other struggles of life. The longer I keep my mind, body and soul occupied, the less anxiety I have about not finding a job, or my husband not finding a job. It’s all about mental health in one way or another. Let’s see how this goes…
